Morphological changes included cuticle fusion and increased cortical fluorescence. Mechanical properties were affected, with increased denaturation temperature and post-yield stiffness, suggesting altered crosslink density and keratin disruption. Despite these changes, alterations in shine and colour were minimal. The study concludes that ozone exposure results in a unique damage signature affecting both the cuticle and cortex, warranting further investigation into lipidomic and biochemical changes and the hair's response to additional stressors.
