July 2023 in “World Journal of Stem Cells” The study developed an injectable hydrogel from antler reserve mesenchyme (RM) matrix (HARM) to enhance regenerative wound healing. Using a rat model with full-thickness cutaneous wounds, the hydrogel was applied both locally and topically, creating a fetal-like niche at the wound site. This niche increased the expression of fetal wound healing-related genes such as Collagen III and TGFβ3, while decreasing Collagen I, TGFβ1, and Engrailed 1, and also increased the number of stem cells, aiding in the regeneration of cutaneous appendages. The findings suggest that HARM could be a promising candidate for clinical use in regenerative wound repair.
