June 1999 in “American Journal of Contact Dermatitis” The study compared the efficacy and tolerability of tazarotene 0.1% gel with tretinoin 0.025% gel and adapalene 0.1% gel in treating acne vulgaris through multicenter, double-blind, randomized trials. Preliminary results indicated that tazarotene was more effective than tretinoin in reducing papules and open comedones and achieved a faster reduction in pustules, while both were equally effective against closed comedones. When applied every other day, tazarotene showed comparable efficacy to daily adapalene in reducing lesion counts. Tazarotene's tolerability was found to be similar to that of tretinoin and adapalene gels.
