January 2015 in “Journal of the Egyptian Womenʼs Dermatologic Society” January 2026 in “Journal of Materials Chemistry B” The study investigates a novel deep eutectic solvent (DES) formulation to enhance the transdermal delivery and bioactivity of hydroxytyrosol (HT), a compound with antioxidant properties, for promoting hair growth. The DES system, composed of betaine, urea, and lactic acid (BUL), significantly improves the skin penetration of HT, achieving over threefold greater permeation compared to aqueous solutions. In vivo studies demonstrated that HT@BUL effectively promotes hair regrowth and is highly biocompatible. Additionally, in vitro assays showed that HT-loaded BUL has ROS-scavenging activity, stimulates cell proliferation, and reduces cellular senescence. This research suggests that combining antioxidant molecules with BUL could be a promising therapeutic approach for hair regrowth.
