This study presents a novel method for treating androgenetic alopecia (AGA) using a controlled rigidity nanolipogel (NLG) for the topical delivery of fucosterol. The NLG, with its lipid bilayer and alginate core, has its rigidity controlled by sodium alginate cross-linking. Among the tested formulations, the moderately rigid NLG-2.5 demonstrated superior transdermal permeability and hair follicle-targeting properties. It effectively inhibited inflammation and androgen pathways while promoting angiogenesis, leading to restored hair growth in AGA model mice. This approach offers promising insights for AGA treatment.

Switching from finasteride 1mg daily to dutasteride 0.5mg daily may offer better hair regrowth. However, if finasteride is effective, fully switching to dutasteride is not advised; instead, adding dutasteride once a week could be beneficial.
