November 2017 in “Gynecological Endocrinology” The enzyme myo-inositol oxygenase is not linked to the cause of polycystic ovarian syndrome.
The study aimed to establish expert consensus on using Myo-inositol (MI) for managing dermatologic symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), such as acne and hirsutism. Through a Delphi process involving 133 experts, consensus was reached that MI is an effective and well-tolerated treatment for these symptoms. It is recommended to use MI at a dosage of 4 g/day for at least 6 months. Additionally, combinations of MI with folic acid and vitamin D₃, or with D-chiro-inositol, are preferred for addressing metabolic dysfunction and hyperandrogenism. The study suggests integrating MI-based therapy into the comprehensive management of PCOS-related skin issues.
